Review by:anish88 Jul 06, 2010 The first time I entered China Garden was close to .....
  • The first time I entered China Garden was close to 5 years ago, when they shut down the Chinese restaurant next to it, and I am glad I did. China Garden reeks of class, straight from the valet parking to the humongous vase as soon as you enter to the decor of the place. But the best part is the food. China Garden serves a brand of Chinese food which, I believe, has long been forgotten at the average Chinese restaurant. Their food is full of flavor as opposed to the red chilly and garlic loaded food from the generic 'next door' Chinjabi (Punjabi cuisine influenced Chinese). To put it simply, the spiciest item on the menu is mild enough for almost everyone to enjoy. Now that that's been put to rest, let's move on to the food. We normally do a 4-course lunch when we go to China Garden, and come out with smiles the width of Africa almost every time. The Manchow soup is absolutely fantastic and it is definitely the one to gulp down before you start. The soup has a strong Ginger flavor though, so order the hot & sour soup if you would prefer something less gingery. Moving on, the dim sum's are a very different fare from the regular 'momo's' you get from the road-side stall. They are of various varieties with different stuffings. The Dragon roll is definitely the one to order. It combines peculiar eastern flavors within a thick covering. The Chilly-Garlic sauce it comes with is the perfect accompaniment for the dim sums, and I am certain that will curb your craving for the hot stuff. On the appetizer front, the salt & pepper chicken is brilliant. It is crisp on the outside and absolutely succulent on the inside. You could also try the honey-chilly potatoes. Although I would admit that the honey-chilly potatoes are not as great as the rest of the food, but they are still pretty good to eat. Now for my favorite course, the Main Course! The Chilly Garlic noodles are about as close to perfect as one can expect. They are full of the garlic flavor and the vegetables are cooked to perfection. Unlike most run of the mill Chinese Restaurants, they aren't exactly spicy, just full of the garlic flavor. The fried rice are also great, possibly the best quality rice I've had at any Chinese restaurant in years. The Sa-Po chicken is to die for. It comes on a hot plate with a small heating lamp below. The chicken is really soft and the sauce is indescribably delicious. The Kung-Pao chicken is also fantastic with the right amount of crisp and heat. The best part about the order is that you can order what they call 'small portions' of the main dishes. These are 3/4th of the full-portion quantity and this works particularly well for us because we can eat more variety in the same meal :) For dessert, I only have Chocolate Mousse, which is surprisingly great because one doesn't expect Chocolate Mousse at a Chinese restaurant. To be perfectly honest, there are times when I have gone to China Garden just for the chocolate mousse, and it was worth it! :) Although China Garden isn't exactly easy on the pocket, it is about as good a Chinese Food eating experience you can gather without letting go of an arm and a leg. It is the best Chinese food experience I have had and I strongly suggest that you give it a shot.
