  • Nestled in the crook of Lodhi Gardens’ arm, Lodi –The Garden Restaurant is one of the prettiest restaurants in Delhi.Huge trees lord it over the backlit bar, the gauzy cabanas and wooden swings outside. On rainy days, settle into the wood-heavy interior, which looks like a hunting lodge minus a few stag heads, but if it’s not pelting try to snag a wrought-iron table outdoors. The food at the Lodi used to be window-dressing, good enough to wash down with a glass of wine as you gazed at the leafery. But last year’s tinkering in the kitchen has produced major improvement. The menu is European-Mediterranean, and not overthought. The appetisers, in fact, are fairly tame – falafel, chilli shrimp, lamb skewers. A chilled salad (`365) of milky-white sole and avocado came with strips of watery lettuce, but was a good wash of clean, cold flavours well suited to a summer evening. The waiter’s suggestion of a Blavod (that’s black vodka, which gets its ghostly violet-black colour from catechu acacia extract) cocktail with pineapple and triple sec (`395) was heavy on the sweet pineapple, but otherwise unobjectionable. The stiffer maple leaf swizzle (`595) was a gentle swish of bourbon, maple syrup and lemon, a casual riff on a whiskey sour. All the Lodi’s cocktails are too sweet, but that can be easily remedied if you restrain the bartender. For mains, there are many haphazard choices: Andaman prawns with citrus butter, moussaka, risotto primavera, steak. There’s also a good prix fixee option of two courses and a cocktail for ` 895, or three courses and a cocktail at ` 1095. Our Manali trout (`625) arrived as a gorgeous trio of perfect fillets atop a bed of sautéed veggies. The herb crust was just the right side of salty, finished with a light citrus dressing . The Moroccan shoulder of lamb (`595) was a good cut, slow-cooked in a rich sauce of Moroccan spices. But even backed by well-cooked mashed potatoes and ratatouille, it couldn’t equal the trout for flavour. Desserts were serviceable but not brilliant: a light mascarpone chocolate cheesecake outdid the subtle but heavy mint-chocolate mousse (both ` 265). We ended the night indoors, watching the rain over cups of coffee (`125). Lodi is a lovely place, especially in winter.

  • The Lodi is a lively open-air restaurant that offers Mediterranean and European cuisine and a great dining experience under the starry sky. As you enter the place, a beautiful well lit garden greets you with its multiple hanging lanterns and candles creating a warm and a cozy atmosphere. Also, elevated above the verdant ground, small white tents are put up where you can sit and enjoy an exclusive dining experience, thus making it simply memorable. I have been here many a times and simply love these little tents wherein I have had absolutely great evenings and unforgettable moments. There is also an indoor area for those who prefer dining indoors. The service is impeccable and the food is tasty and beautifully plated. Beautiful arrangements and the place setting, complemented by the perfect mood lighting and congenial ambiance, make this one of my favorites in the city. Affordable and comfortable, this place is a pleasant retreat from the Capital’s madding crowd and is a must visit for everyone, especially for those looking to woo their lady love.
