We visited Blancos a few days back for a drink .....
We visited Blancos a few days back for a drink and some food. Quite a nice place. The staff was quite friendly and attentive and we never had to wait for more than a few seconds for service. They have these quaint wooden tables, a kind of 'polished around the corners' rough look, very dim fluoroscent lighting and quite uncomfortable chairs. They have a smoking section and serve drinks. Talking about drinks, for some reason, their bar just consists of a few cubby holes in the wall, where bottles are stacked two deep, which doesn't let you see what exactly they have in stock. What they did have, didn't seem like too much, but then looks can be deceptive. The wine section of their bar menu was probably the most exhaustive I've seen in quite a while. While it was grossly overpriced, as retail liquor in India usually is, it did have different sections for different wines described as 'full bodied', 'rich flavor' and so on. On to the food - the menu was very interesting, with a wide range of extremely tempting food. Curiously, it was hand written, which I guess is a nice touch. We ordered a Sushi Platter (INR 500 for 8 pieces) to go with our meal. This included California Maki, Salmon Nigiri, Prawn and Zucchini rolls. They looked absolutely delicious! It was served with a dip (probably soya and rice vinegar and/or mirin), sushi ginger (gari) and wasabi paste. Quite nice, though the taste of the rice wasn't coming through as it does when fresh. We also ordered 'Legendary Vietnamese prawn rolls with Sweet Chilli Dip' (INR 350 for 6 pieces). These too looked just the way they should and tasted fabulous. The dip served with it was very delicately flavored and just right. Overall, definitely worth a visit.

Blanco is that wonderful yet still uncommon thing in Delhi: .....
Blanco is that wonderful yet still uncommon thing in Delhi: a chic café that offers very good food at very reasonable prices. It’s open all day, but we recommend lunching here for the cheerful outdoors section and the large windows that flood the small white space with sunlight. But unlike most new restaurants in Delhi, you’ll be better off ignoring the ambience and concentrating on the food. Though we’re not usually fans of meandering menus that travel from Malaysian-style banana-wrapped fish to Hawaiian pork chops, in this case we were repeatedly tempted and quite famished by the time we were done reading. We were unimpressed by the king fish steak, too thick (really, fish is not meat) and too dry for even the generous heap of salsa to salvage. The chicken salad sandwich benefited from fresh grainy bread and perfect potato wedges, but needed a few extra dollops of mayonnaise. Fortunately, we’d started with a salad, crispy red snapper with spicy Vietnamese pineapple salsa, and grilled feta and herbed polenta on skewers. The delicate cubes of polenta were tastefully accompanied by black olives and bell peppers, and highlighted by salty, crumbly-soft feta creamy enough to melt against the touch of the fork. Super. The salad’s piquant chunks of pineapple, cucumber and celery were balanced by the crisp snapper skin, which flaked easily to reveal flavourful meat; a dish so delicious that it left us scrounging for every last morsel. Tart and refreshing virgin mojitos cleansed the palette for the house speciality: a velvety cheese cake baked in classic Philly style with a thin lemon glaze to round off the sweetness.so we can come again....

Last Saturday we had a get together with a group of friends for dinner at Blanco. Was meeting a few of them after a long time hence the dinner was special. We were in all 12 of us. So we had to book the table earlier. When we reached the table was ready and we realised that the noise was a bit too much. We ordered for 2 bottles of a premium wine ( which was not covered in happy hurs though) followed by sumptuous Bruchetta as appitizer. It was so nice that we ordered some more and then some more. Each one of us took a special dish for dinner and the food was really tasty. At the end the sweet dish " chocolate brownies" were the icing on the cake. They were simply delicious. I strongly recommend this restaurant for a great evening.
