There is a moment, right after you step into Baci, that it becomes clear to you that this bar wishes it was in Manhattan. The contemporary furniture, the art-work, the subdued light and the high ceilings add to the impression that the downstairs bar has walked right out of a magazine listing the trendy new spots in New York. But to folks tired of the garish furniture, over-loud music and bizarrely hypnotic lighting schemes of many of Delhi's bars, this is actually a bit of a relief.
But let's start at the beginning. Baci, which is the only sit-down restaurant in the otherwise art-and-furniture shop infested Sundar Nagar market had been for the first few months after it opened a well-kept secret in the heart of South Delhi. Excellent Italian food, carefully prepared with mostly imported ingredients populated a small, but pretty comprehensive menu. Its steak (buffalo, sadly), was and is amongst the best under Rs500 steaks in the entire city, and the salads and appetizers were always fantastic. The bar was well-stocked, the bar-tenders polite and well-trained, and on Thursday nights, a DJ would spin mostly British and Israeli techno and house for a smallish crowd.

Quaint restaurant at corner of sunder nagar market.Authentic Italian joint with limited menu . But whatever we ordered was excellent. The thin crust pizzas and the chicken main course (forgeting the name) was to die for. Very good service . For all Italian food lovers a must try !

In a quiet corner of the Sunder Nagar Market, is a kiss of the Italian kind. (Baci = kiss). It is as underplayed yet classy as the rest of the market, and it attracts plenty of expats too. The bestsellers on their menu include Prawns with Mashed Potato and Lobster Butter Sauce, and Australian Lamb Chops with Baked Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach with Rosemary Jus. Baci is not the most authentic Italian eatery in the city, but it is a pleasant restaurant with down-to-earth pricing. The ground floor is an Italian-style cafe with pastries and desserts on display.

I love the Sangria they have, make sure to get a pitcher cause you will want a refill. The pizzas are better than the pastas. However I am vegetarian so my opinion will be a little skewed. I love the location and the ambience of the restaurant. Had a great time with friends here. The Sangria pitcher cost us a bomb though, so if you are on a budget, skip the drinks.
